Top Seven most Popular Extreme activities in New Zealand

Share/Save/Bookmark

1. Walking and Trekking
This is by far the most popular activity in New Zealand, so popular that it has a local name to it - tramping. Though at first glance it doesn’t seem to qualify as an “extreme activity” but don’t be so sure of it. New Zealand’s nature is very unpredictable and perfect weather conditions can change to extreme in very short time. There are also some very remote and wild areas in New Zealand where the access to civilization is limited. Tramping in such areas can be dangerous and is not recommended for the unexperienced tramper. All this makes Tramping a pretty extreme activity. But don’t worry - there are plenty easy tracks accessible for people with all kinds of fitness levels. You can read more about tramping in my article titled Tramping Revealed

Pupu Springs South Island New Zealand

Pupu Springs is a short for Waikoropupu. These springs are located in the South Island of New Zealand, west of Nelson, near Takaka. Pupu Springs are famous for their crystal clear waters. The water is so clear that you can see to the depth of about 30 meters from the surface!
The water that comes up from the underground forming the Pupu Springs, originates in the virgin forests many miles from here, where the water filters into underground Karst limestone river system. This water resurfaces in Pupu Springs and further out in the sea.

Paua in Maori Legends

One of the Maori tales tells us of the legendary Maui fishing trip. Maui was a demigod mentioned in many Maori legends. In this fishing trip Maui used a magical fishing hook made from Paua shell and some other ingredients to pull from sea depths the land, which is now called New Zealand. You can read more about Maui in my article titled King of New Zealand’s Mythology. But in this article I would like to tell you about Paua – one of the New Zealand’s icons.
